Monster midge at the Children’s Media University

On 3rd and 4th June, 2005, about 2,000 children attended the lectures and workshops of the »1st Children’s Media University« on the media campus of the University of Applied Sciences in Wiesbaden. During these two days the boys and girls gained an instructional und entertaining insight into the media world through play.

For this purpose, Patrick and Bjoern packed suitcases they thought children would love to unpack and, in six lectures, took 6 to 12-year-olds with them onto their »nanojourney«…

»Uuuuuugh, that is a MONSTER MIDGE there… Yucky!«
»If you can’t walk, that thing (DNA) can be made whole again and then you can walk again.«
»Is it this small (points to his little finger)?
What… even smaller? Wow!«

Conclusion
It was amazing how nanojourneys could make even this very young »target group« feel enthusiastic about the rather complex subjects. And interesting: We, too, learned something new again – to see the journey into the nano cosmos with the wondering eyes of children and to explain contexts in a way that they even mean something to the youngest: »Atoms are like Lego bricks, you can build the coolest things with them… even very, very big things, like people like ourselves!«
