Project Description
In order to mark the beginning of a new cultural path project, information boards for Pommern at the River Mosel were to be developed which, standing at the riverside, inform about the regional offers of the wine town. As a highlight of Pommern, the plateau Martberg with its excavations of an important Celtic-Roman hilltop settlement (Oppidum) is in the foreground for the external communication of the town.
Tasks
- Development of a logo and appearance for the planned cultural path Martberg/Pommern
Layout and implementation of information boards with contents on the subjects:
. Martberg with information on the excavations
. Pommern with overview map and local history
. regional hiking trail map with route descriptions
. winegrowing in the area with regional vineyard locations
Development of a system of exchangeable advertising areas for regional enterprises
Concept & Implementation
a stylised coin as the logo for the cultural path refers to the important findings of coins on the plateau of Martberg
Use of the old font Capitalis Quadrata from the 4th century for the word brand »Martberg«
The Claim »Celts. Romans. Moselanians« forms the historic connection between the former and the present inhabitants of the area
Basic colouration with muted blues for the Martberg project inspired by the metal appearance of coins found
the use of colours and stylistic elements typical of a wine town were abandoned deliberately in favour of the particularity of the place
Segmentation of photographies into colours laid on top of each other in plains gives the screen printing results plasticity
Technology
Screen printing with 4 to 7 spot colours (no grid colours) on sheet plates with a basic varnish slid onto metal rails
Due to the Mosel flood each year, the 2.50 m high metal steles are divided into manageable parts and can be removed completely right down to their foundation.
