Project Description

The various surface analysis instruments by Omicron are controlled with a proprietary software. An icon system adapted to the instruments’ scientific requirements identifies the different functionalities and facilitates the use of the control software.

Tasks

• Solving the conflict between self-explanatory and easily identifiable icons
• Style of the icons inspired by the Vista operating system by Microsoft
• Development of suitable desktop icons for the program, project files as well as single experiments
• It has to be possible for the Omicron staff to expand the icon system

Concept & Implementation

In order to be able to use the icons both as buttons and to display opened menu items etc., the representations of the functions are extracted and made scaleable. In combination with a framed button area which is clearly silhouetted against the background, each icon can thus also be used as a button.
